Get In the St. George’s Day Spirit

Saint George was the patron saint of many countries including England, Hungary, Portugal and Spain, and every year, in his honour, we celebrate his life. Traditionally, this day was treated as a public holiday - much like Christmas, however, this isn't the case today.

In England, the celebratory traditions of flying the St. George's Cross flag and indulging in traditional English food and drink are longstanding. Traditionalists might also put on a Punch and Judy show and invite Morris dancers along to have a dance. While St. Patrick's Day celebrations around the world are huge, festivities around St. George's Day tend to be quintessentially British and involve garden fetes for all the family. As such, it is very easy to combine St. Georges Day celebrations with fundraising.

If your business is looking to get involved in a charity event around Birmingham this April, then you're going to need commercial cleaning services afterwards, to help with the clean-up.

Fundraising Ideas

If you like the idea of marking this day by doing a little something for charity - and having fun at the same time, then read on for fundraising ideas.

  • Hold a fete and include some (or all) of the following:

-          Throw wet sponges or gunge willing volunteers

-          Hold a raffle with prizes

-          Arrange a bouncy castle

-          Arrange fairground games

-          Make it traditional and organise candy floss and toffee apples

-          Sell cakes, sweet treats and homemade gifts

-          Host some face painting, a pet show and arts and crafts for the youngsters

-          Hold a Barbeque

-          Hire a chocolate fountain for the kids (and most adults!)

  • Cream Tea Luncheon - have a prize auction and serve tiny sandwiches and bite-sized cakes with tea, scones and clotted cream
  • A Full Monty in the office - and we mean food! Serve your staff a full English breakfast and charge accordingly, with all the proceeds going to charity
  • Similarly, serving a traditional roast beef dinner and traditional English dessert at lunch time is an excellent way of getting those donations in
  • An English Quiz Night - test your knowledge of all things English; including sport, music, fashion, history and geography

Here at Relkogroup, we understand just how difficult it can be organising and running events of this nature, so leave the hard work and clean-up to us by making use of our professional and sought-after commercial cleaning services; leaving you with plenty of time to count your donations!

However you choose to celebrate St. Georges Day this year, remember that Relko can help you out of a sticky situation, quite literally, at any time.
